CNC Waterjet technology is a cutting-edge method for precise cutting and shaping of a wide range of materials, including metal, stone, glass, ceramic, and more. At Capella Stones, we use CNC waterjet machines to create beautiful and intricate designs for our customers.
A CNC waterjet machine uses a high-pressure water stream mixed with an abrasive material, such as a garnet, to cut through the material. The waterjet is controlled by a computer, allowing for precise and accurate cuts. The CNC waterjet machines we use at Capella Stones can cut through materials up to 6 inches thick and produce parts with a tolerance of just a few thousandths of an inch.
Compressed water with ultra-high pressure of 4000 bar produced by a hydraulic pump is conveyed to a cutting head, which can also be called a pneumatically controlled on-off valve, by means of special alloy steel pipes resistant to very high pressure. This cutting head has diamond or ruby orifices ranging in diameter from 0.15 mm to 0.35 mm. Compressed water with high pressure is forced to pass through this diamond orifice so that the speed of sound is increased approximately three times, and a water jet called waterjet is obtained. This water jet at 3 times the speed of sound passes through a 1mm or 0.76mm diameter nozzle vacuuming the abrasive called Garnet Abrasive while passing through an abrasion-resistant mixture. This waterjet + abrasive mixture, which comes out from the nozzle tip at 3 times the speed of sound, can cut all materials found in nature such as iron, steel, stainless steel, aluminum, hard tool steel, marble, granite, travertine, ceramic, glass, plexiglass up to 150 mm thick. ( I am not sure about this part. Do we need to give highly detailed info?)
One of the significant benefits of CNC waterjet technology is that it is a non-contact cutting method. This means that it does not generate heat or cause any damage to the surrounding material. This is particularly useful when cutting delicate or sensitive materials, such as electronic components, historical artifacts, or inlays for countertops.
Another benefit of CNC waterjet technology is that it is extremely accurate and versatile. The computer-controlled nature of the machine allows for precise cuts and shapes to be made, and it can cut any 2D shape, even the most complex ones, with high precision and accuracy. The CNC waterjet machines can also cut a wide range of thicknesses, from thin sheets to thick plates, and it can handle materials of varying densities and hardness, including glass, ceramics, metal, stone, and more.
Our CNC waterjet machines are also very efficient, they can work continuously with minimal supervision and can produce large numbers of identical parts with high precision, which makes it ideal for production runs.
In addition to the normal water jet machines, the newly developed Dynamic Water Jet machines and the cutting heads also have the features of extension and rotation. In this way, it can cut much more precisely than normal water jets. Thanks to the dynamic cutting head (Dynamic Cutting Head), the cutter head produces the smoothest surface by minimizing the stretching of water with 2 separate motors apart from the normal bridges. Today, water jet benches, which provide great convenience to operators with CNC control units, work by spraying water on the material with a high pressure that can reach 6000 bar, without any hard or soft separation of thicknesses from 0.1 mm to 200 mm.
At Capella Stones, we are proud to use CNC waterjet technology to create beautiful and intricate designs for our customers. This cutting-edge technology allows us to offer high-quality, precise cuts and shapes that are not possible with other methods.
